Our preflop trainer is the most modern out there. With it’s minimalistic design and mobile compatibility, it’s the most effective tool to master your preflop strategies. In this guide we’ll show you how to get the most out of it.
Inside the app, go to Preflop > Strategies or click here. You’ll see a list of all the preflop strategies that are available to you.
Depending on you subscription and own custom strategies the screen might be a bit different to the one shown here. But
every strategy has a button called Train
. Click the button and you’ll get to the settings page of the Trainer.
A detailed overview of all settings can be found here. For now you can just click Start Training
in the lower right corner of the settings screen which will start the preflop trainer.
Once the trainer starts up you will see a bunch of numbers shouldering the table.
Hovering your mouse over different numbers will show additional information.
The centerpiece of our Preflop Trainer is the minimalistic poker table. Each circle represents a seat at the table - with you (the Hero) always being seated center bottom. The middle of the table displays the current pot size in big blinds and your current pot odds in relative and percentage form.
Each seat shows the table position (e.g. UTG, LJ, HJ, BTN, etc.) and the players stack size. If the player hasn’t folded yet, two hole cards are shown next to the seats circle. If the player folds, the hole cards disappear and the circle fades out.
The action always goes around the table clock wise. If a player bets, chips will be moved towards the middle of the table with a number indicating the bet or raise amount in big blinds.
Going clock wise you’ll see different numbers and indicators around the table giving you a variety of information about your training session.
In the top left you’ll see the streak indicator with the number representing the number of correct decisions you made in a row.
Placed in the top right is the End Drill
button. This will end the current training session and guide you to the results
page. Next to it the current hand number is displayed and the total hands for this session (only visible if a maximum
number of hands is set in the trainer settings).
In the bottom right you’ll find a ring indicating the time left in this hand for you to make a decision. This ring only appears if you set a time per decision other than infinity.
In the bottom left you find your accuracy during the training session. It will be color coded to indicate your current performance.
Each training hand will play out the table action until it’s your turn to act. Below the table you’ll see a list of buttons with all possible actions to take. These will be aware of the action that has happened on the table. So in a 3 betted pot you won’t be able to open raise, since that already happened.
Consider your options and then decide for the correct action. If your starting hand has a mixed strategy, the trainer will accept all actions that are mixing. After deciding on an action the trainer wil give you feedback on your decision and update your accuracy, streak and hand statistics.
If you want to end the training session before you reach the final hand, click on the End Drill
button.
Note that the trainer won’t save your progress if you prematurely end the training session by navigating to another page or closing the trainer tab.
In the upper right corner of your window you’ll find the session history tab. Click on it to look at all your previous hands in this training session. It shows your hole cards, position, taken action and the pot state the hand was in (Unopened, 3 betted, etc.) A checkmark or warning sign indicate if your decision was correct.
After your training session ended a new screen will open up displaying your performance during the session.
From the top to the bottom the review displays:
The next section gives you a decision breakdown:
After that you’ll find your performance on close decisions (meaning decisions that are around the edge of you range):
Since close decisions are the most difficult aspects of range training Limp Lab doesn’t consider them as mistakes, but inaccuracies. If you were to play a range like AJs+, TT+, KQs+ and AQo+, opening ATs is far less problematic than opening 86o. That is why Limp Lab makes this differentiation.
Below that you’ll see your longest streak during the session and your average decision time, which is helpful to gauge how quickly you can react in online sessions.
You can use keyboard shortcuts to move faster through your training sessions. Use the R
key for any raising action (open, 3bet, 4bet, etc.), C
for calling, A
for going all-in, X
for checking and F
for folding.
After you made a decision and are shown the result of your decision you can use the Space
bar to move on to the next hand.
If you have activated Learn Mode or if you activated challenge mode and took a wrong decision, a light bulb will appear next to your holding.
Clicking on the light build will open a range viewer displaying the range you should play in this spot with your current holding highlighted in the range table.
When Building your strategy you can attach notes to specific spots explaining the reasoning behind your range or just a short description of your range (or whatever else you like). If a spot has notes available it will show up below the possible decisions you can take.
Notice the crossed eye icon? Clicking on that icon will reveal your notes.
When you open up notes and train in the challenge mode you won’t get any XP.
